Reflection of 2019

As I reflected over 2019, I found that there were a lot of wins to take note of:

  • Survived heart surgery

  • Read 13 books total over the year

  • Discipled 4 brothers

  • Worked on a personal website and deployed it

  • Found a job at RetailMeNot after being jobless and started work in December

  • And many more...

There were also many things I realized I needed to grow in:

  • Cutting back on the amount of youtube and social media I use

  • Learning to focus and prioritize time

  • Getting burnt out from meeting up with too many people

2020 Theme - "Focus & Rest"

As I've been reflecting over these things and thinking over how I want to live out 2020, I decided I needed to set a theme for the year. This theme would act as a reminder and a guiding point over how I lived my life. Based on the patterns of things I needed to grow in, I decided "Focus and Rest" for two reasons:

  1. Learning to Focus is essential in order to maturely steward well the things I have been given.

  2. Learning to Rest is essential, physically, to have the strength and energy to run faster, farther, and smarter, while also, spiritually, allow me to give what I can't control to God and trust in His plans.

I'm excited for what this year has to come. Though I can see how I will need to wrestle with a lot of work, and there will be a huge responsibility when it comes to ministry, I know that there will be a lot of growth, not only personally, but with those around me. Can't wait to live life on life with y'all on it!

Misplaced Affections

Have you ever felt those moments where you don’t want to exert energy to be noticed by people? To be isolated and alone. At the same time, the embracing feeling of loneliness sparks a desire to be reached out to, even with the paradox of running away?

In those moments, I wrestle a lot with how to act under that desire for acceptance amidst the comfortable loneliness.

Negativity Redeemed

You’re stupid.

That was the dumbest thing you could’ve ever done.

I can’t believe you did that.
---

That’s what I tell myself so many times a day.

It’s kind of scary the number of times I say those phrases to myself.

Even when I don’t say these negative words aloud, my self-deprecating self finds a way to ease itself into the conversation.
